Services
Although it’s a cliché, every business really is different: different services, different goals and of course, different risks. Second Sight knows this, and so has a varied offering reflecting our broad customers base’s needs, whether you’re a small business seeking to bring in missing expertise, a government authority looking for advice prior to policy renewal or a multinational company trying to reduce their overall risk profile.
Sub-Contracting
A 2023 RSA article estimates that 10% of property risk engineers in the London Market were due to retire within a couple of years the article’s release, presenting a tangible loss of knowledge and experience within the Insurance Sector. Furthermore, with no direct educational route into insurance risk surveying, a skills and labour shortage is emerging and causing Insurers to increasingly rely on external specialist Risk Surveying Companies.
With this in mind, Second Sight provides sub-contracting services to both Insurers and Risk Surveying companies. Hal is familiar with Insurer expectations, guidance documents and technical standards having worked for several different companies, and being Devon based, can be relied upon for surveys within the Southwest and south of Wales, reducing your turnaround time and carbon footprint resulting from employee travel. Nationwide visits and remote surveys are also possible if required.
Broker & Policyholder Assistance
Insurers are applying increasing scrutiny to the properties and businesses that they insure as new technologies, construction methods and environmental conditions emerge; such information gathering helps them to understand the risks that they cover and reduce their overall potential for loss. However, many insurance brokerages and policyholders are inexperienced or ill-prepared for questioning - afterall, it’s unlikely that they’re experts in this field and their own.
Second Sight can provide assistance before, during and after Insurer visits to help clients prepare themselves, to provide a second opinion or alternative solutions during visits, and help implement solutions for any risk improvements raised during survey.
Furthermore, the Insurance Act 2015 requires ‘Fair Presentation’ of risks to Insurers at the time of policy inception; failure to do so can result in policies becoming void and claims refusal. Second Sight can help review client documentation prior to going to market to ensure that customers are accurately represented and information that will likely be requested by Insurers is presented fully.
Legal Compliance
Arguably more important than Insurer requirements, Second Sight can provide advice on your business’s compliance with current legislation and regulations. Holding NEBOSH General Certificate and membership of Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), Hal has a thorough understanding of the laws that may affect clients and potential pitfalls.
For example, a 2021 survey found that over 1/3 businesses did not have a suitable Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) in place despite this being a legal requirement under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. There are also indirect ways in which business may be failing to comply with the law, such as implementing inadequate maintenance regimens putting employees and visitors at risk; effective planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules are essential beyond ensuring that your premises remains operational.
