Why Second Sight?
Second Sight Risk Management is an agile and experienced company that employs diligence in all that it does.
Drawing on a wealth of knowledge of technical standards, health and safety legislation and Insurer requirements, a thorough and accurate representation of risk can be established. We know that risks, and Insurer appetite for them, continue to change and so is dedicated to continued professional development.
But that’s only half of the story; surveys can be intimidating and confusing for Policyholders. Through empathy, clear communication, and reducing & explaining jargon, the mystery of the process is removed.
A range of services is available to Businesse alike:
Completion of suitable and sufficient fire risk assessments for low & medium risk premises by National Fire Risk Assessor Registered Assessors.
Development of fire strategies for new builds, refurbishments and change of use projects, setting out the physical and behavioural safety measures that will be in place.
Supply, installation and maintenance of fire extinguishers, ensuring premises remain compliant and properly protected year on year.
Health and safety support and inspections, helping businesses meet their wider duty of care alongside their fire safety obligations.
Insurance risk management support for brokers and insurers alike.
Second Sight is based in Devon, an area that is chronically underserved by Fire Safety Specialists - reduce wasted travel time and carbon footprint by utilising our skills. Furthermore, the business is located within 15 minutes of the M5 and near a direct trainline to London
Full professional indemnity and public liability insurances held.

Hal - The CV
Hal has four years’ experience as an insurance risk surveyor, working for multinational insurers as well as a dedicated risk surveying subcontractor. During this time, he has surveyed a broad variety of properties including factories, large residential buildings, entertainment venues, schools and vacant premises ranging in value up to excess of £200 million. At different times, his work appetite has been focused on managing the survey schedule for public sector property portfolios, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), whilst undertaking additional responsibilities such as acting as a department subject matter expert on flooding. His expertise and personable nature has been used by past employers to mentor and train new Risk Surveyors, a process he has thoroughly enjoyed.
Prior to becoming a Risk Surveyor, Hal worked as a civil engineer in government for 6 years, during which time he oversaw and contributed to the design and procurement of various projects including flood alleviation schemes, car park design, coastal defence works and cliff stabilisation. This has given him a broad knowledge of materials and construction methods, as well as the workings of government organisation.
Hal holds a BSc (Hons) in Health Sciences, as well as an HNC in Civil Engineering and many vocational qualifications including the NEBOSH General Certificate. He has also achieved several technical memberships, including current Associate of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (AIFSM), TechIOSH status, Member of the International Institute of Risk & Safety Management (MIIRSM) and formerly, Charted Construction Project Manager (MCIOB) status.

He wholeheartedly embraces this human factor, endeavouring to make survey comfortable for all involved. Always keen to learn more, he is aware of the importance of ensuring competency in his work and will never accept work that he feels falls outside of his expertise.
